SKY HIGH RATIONALE

TOP 5 REASONS TO VISIT COLORADO

Written by: J.J. Dubulous

In light of the righteous new legislature in the state of Colorado, many travelers world-wide are reconsidering where to spend their much deserved vacation time. Thanks to amendment 64, many dispensaries will now happily be selling recreational marijuana. Since coloRADo is setting the precedent in providing access to all, and, seeing as how this state holds some of the richest beauty in the country, it is fast becoming the prime vacation destination for marijuana users across the United States and globally.

POT PIONEER
Mary Jane in the Mountains.

Not only do you get to be among the first to walk in to a dispensary to procure some bud, edibles, hash, etc., you have an opportunity to freely and proudly integrate the high life into your travels. Also, finding yourself in a community of like-minded individuals who believe everyone should have this chance someday is an extraordinary opportunity indeed. Your friends and grandchildren will be so proud… no really man, they will — your blaze will leave a trail of opportunity for many, many others to follow.

THE PACE
You will not need a vacation from your vacation.

The means are new, but the ways have always been kind. Colorado is full of natives, transplants, and transients who understand how to really unwind. It is not uncommon for a local’s “Sick day” to be spent on a mountain or floating on the river. Punctuality does not prevail; folks really take their time doing just about everything and would not bat an eye if you chose to sleep in, wake and bake, and have a beer with breakfast. The backdrop of gorgeous blue skies, majestic landscapes, and rejuvenating waters (including hot springs) lends to ultimate relaxation, a common theme throughout the state.
Even if you hit it hard on the slopes, explore the hiking trails, or rise early with the flyest of fisherman, at the end of the day there are endless ways to unwind your mind.

ADVENTURE
Paddle, ski, make some x-treme snow angels… let your inner child get a little wild.

While clean mountain air and stunning sunsets help you chill, there is a wildness about the state that can only be reconciled with the unleashing of primal play. Your call may be kitesurfing the snowy plateaus, ice climbing some epic waterfalls in winter, or jumping off those same falls in the sizzling heat of summer. For some, a run on the alpine slide or floating the lake will suffice. Bring your GoPro and a helmet — just in case.

SUN AND SUDS
Year-round bounty of radiant rays and bubbly brews.

Our fair state boasts many world renowned, award-winning microbrews. With so many breweries and pubs per capita, a cold one is always at hand. Even some of our coffee houses pour the pints. Add this to year round sun (an average of 300 days or better) and this is a major boon for a vacationer. Even if you steer clear of beer, (what?!) isn’t it nice to know that the vibe is predominantly gregarious?

TRAVELER’S CHOICE
From big city concerts and clubs to quiet lakeside cabins… do whatcha like.

Although I recommend visiting the best of all worlds, there is a bounty of style to choose from for every traveler. Denver has one of the best music venues on the planet: Red Rocks, which is a natural amphitheater, Mile High Stadium, and many clubs to get your rump shaking. Beyond that, each of the smaller cities and mountain towns has a distinct charm of its own. There’s the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Train,  (is that a vapor pen in your pocket?), the Telluride/ Mountain Village Gondola, a wide range of palette-provoking eateries, wineries, breweries, galleries, and never ending scenery.  Disappearing into the woods with a tent or wandering the Colorado Trail are also both excellent options. If variety is the spice of life, then Colorado is the Ghost Pepper. So come burn one and smile high.
